Virginia Catholic Education Association Vision Statement

ST. MARY’S PRESCHOOL PROGRAM

St. Mary’s Preschool is a Diocesan school under the direction of the Office of Catholic Schools and the guidelines for the Virginia Catholic Education Association’s early childhood programs.  We are licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and meet strict standards for health and safety.  Our program interprets the general goals of early childhood education as being primarily the development of the whole child and we are committed to offering opportunities for balanced growth in all areas: social, emotional, intellectual, physical, creative, and spiritual.  We are a ministry to young families and are dedicated to providing a quality Catholic preschool program to meet the needs of our community.

A Typical Preschool Day
Each class has its own schedule, but our teachers are flexible and may adjust daily activities to meet the children’s interests and needs.  A typical day for our morning 4 year old class might look like this:

               9:00             Welcome and Free Play
               9:15             Good Morning Circle
9:45             Free Play and Small Group Activities

             10:30            Bathroom, Snack, Story
              11:00             Circle Games
              11:15             Playground
              11:45             Dismissal

Each class meets weekly for music and movement activities.

Snack is provided for our 3 and 4 year old classes.  Pre-Kindergarten children bring a lunch and milk from home.

Catholic Education
A Catholic preschool develops a love of Jesus and knowledge of the presence of God in the lives of the children it serves.  Foundations are laid in the Catholic faith as children experience positive interaction with Christian adult role models.  Our curriculum incorporates the liturgical calendar and monthly themes include elements of religious education appropriate for preschoolers.  Our Pre-Kindergarten class attend Mass the first Friday of each month.

We believe we are in a partnership to provide a strong foundation for your child and try very hard to keep information flowing between us.  Each month our teachers distribute a calendar showing planned activities and a newsletter discussing classroom events offered throughout the month.  The teachers write and post their daily activities outside the classrooms.  The director distributes a newsletter each month detailing school-wide activities and upcoming events.

Parent-Teacher conferences are held mid-year, but our teachers and director are available to speak with you regarding your child as needed.

Parent Participation
Many of our monthly themes include parent participation.  Parent coffees are held for each age group throughout the year.  Parents also play a major role each year in fundraising efforts for the preschool.

Contact Us
If you have any questions or wish to schedule a tour of the facility, please call "Miss Elena" Quartuccio, Preschool Director.  A time will be scheduled to meet with you to visit the Preschool.
