As often as you did it for one of my
least brothers, you did it for me.
(Matthew 25: 40)

Parish Social Ministry at St. Mary’s Parish strives to provide ways for all parishioners to respond to the Gospel imperative in Matthew 25 to respond to the needs of our brothers and sisters. We do this through prayer, compassion, education, service, and advocacy.  You want to help?  Then see Get Involved!  Updated Sep 15, '09

Interested in the Environment?

St. Mary’s had an active group of parishioners who started the bike collection and recycling at the parish and encouraged all of us to be better stewards of the gifts God has given us. People moved on, and the group petered out. If you are interested in being part of a new group, get in touch with Carol Mayfield.

The Virginia Catholic Conference

The Virginia bishops have set up a Catholic Conference to advance the public policy objectives of the two Virginia dioceses and inform members of our diocese about issues being supported by the VCC and the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).

We encourage you to  follow issues in the Virginia General Assembly that the Virginia bishops are supporting and issues in the US Congress that the USCCB is supporting. See the Virginia Catholic Conference site to get information on both of them and sign up there to receive e-mail alerts when contacts with legislators are needed. Also see http:/www.usccb.org/sdwp to learn about actions that the USCCB is taking to promote peace and justice.

Your e-mail messages, letters, and phone calls can make a difference in what legislation is passed!
