Samaritan Fund Report How does the Samaritan Fund work? Financial assistance is provided to people throughout Fairfax County, and occasionally in other areas of Northern Virginia. In most cases, the request comes from a social worker who is putting together a package of financial assistance for a client, and St. Mary’s contribution is $100 or less. Between July 1, 2006 and June 30, 2007, the Samaritan Fund was distributed as follows:
Rent, Mortgages, Security Deposits $21,389.30 Utilities 4,672.26 Motels (mainly for homeless families) 861.84 Medical/Dental 1,184.45 Transportation (includes car repairs) 845.00 Funerals 750.00 Furniture (including storage) 49.28 Clothing (for employment) 52.49 Employment expenses 200.00 Summer school tuition 100.00 Housekeeping help for disabled man 100.00 TOTAL $30, 204.62
Money for assistance is donated by parishioners in the Samaritan Fund box and baskets in the foyer and at the donut table. We have also been blessed by very generous donations by a parish family over several years, and by contributions made in memory of someone who died from another parish family. Thank you!
